Amiibo est une plateforme de communication en champ proche (NFC), développée par Nintendo. Cette plate-forme optionnelle permet la compatibilité entre les figurines compatibles et les jeux vidéo supportés (Super Smash Bros. pour 3DS et Wii U, Mario Kart 8, et Mario Party 10 pour le moment), permettant également de transférer les données d’un personnage. Ceci est effectué avec la console Wii U via le Wii U GamePad, et via un adaptateur NFC avec la Nintendo 3DS, (le lecteur NFC sera intégré sous l’écran inférieur pour les futures New Nintendo 3DS (2015).
